TrendHR significantly reduces upfront and operational costs by deploying a hyperconverged infrastructure around StarWind HCI Appliance (HCA)
CHALLENGE
Before implementing StarWind HCI Appliance (HCA), TrendHR utilized the DataON Cluster-in-a-Box (CiB) appliance virtualized on Hyper-V. However, as the CiB approached end-of-life, the company faced a critical need to refresh its setup. DataON’s new offerings were tightly integrated with Azure and came at a much higher cost.
The company considered options like TrueNAS combined with separate high-availability (HA) servers. However, once all the additional costs for HA and redundancy were factored in, the total investment became prohibitive. TrendHR needed a more affordable solution that would deliver HA without a complete overhaul of its networking infrastructure.

SOLUTION
TrendHR chose StarWind HCI Appliance (HCA) as it offered a cost-effective path to HA and scalability without requiring expensive third-party hardware. The two-node HCA configuration was perfect for TrendHR’s size and budget, allowing them to sidestep costly investments in network switching gear. It also provides seamless scalability to three nodes without needing additional networking upgrades.
With a lower total cost of ownership and a $16,000 savings over the next closest alternative, StarWind’s offering stood out for its value and performance. The resulting infrastructure now delivers the HA, storage performance, and growth flexibility TrendHR needs.
