This page provides an overview of the licensing and pricing for the different editions of StarWind software.

StarWind Software develops and sells storage virtualization and iSCSI storage software. StarWind 5.0 is an advanced and powerful iSCSI SAN software that turns any industry-standard x86 or x64 Windows Server into a fully-functional SAN or networked storage.

The more advanced editions of StarWind offer enterprise-level features including:

HOW ARE STARWIND ISCSI SAN EDITIONS ARE LICENSED

1. StarWind Enterprise CDP Edition: StarWind Enterprise Server license is required for the server designated as the primary storage controller and includes unlimited concurrent iSCSI client connections, support CDP/snapshot features and unlimited of storage capacity. One Enterprise Server license permits installation only on one storage node. The licenses includes 1 year of maintenance.

2. StarWind Enterprise HA 1TB Edition: StarWind Enterprise HA 1TB Edition license includes unlimited iSCSI client connections with 1TB storage capacity for smaller storage capacity environments that require Active-Active High Availability but do not have a large amount of stored data. The StarWind Enterprise HA 1TB license permits installation on a secondary node for the purpose of mirroring or replication from the primary node. The licenses includes 1 year of maintenance.

3. StarWind Enterprise HA 2TB Edition: StarWind Enterprise HA 2TB Edition license includes unlimited iSCSI client connections with 2TB storage capacity for smaller storage capacity environments that require Active-Active High Availability but do not have a large amount of stored data. The StarWind Enterprise HA 2TB license permits installation on a secondary node for the purpose of mirroring or replication from the primary node. The licenses includes 1 year of maintenance.

4. StarWind Enterprise HA 4TB Edition: StarWind Enterprise HA 4TB Edition license includes unlimited iSCSI client connections with 4TB storage capacity for medium storage capacity environments that require Active-Active High Availability but do not have a large amount of stored data. The StarWind Enterprise HA 4TB license permits installation on a secondary node for the purpose of mirroring or replication from the primary node. The licenses includes 1 year of maintenance.

5. StarWind Enterprise HA 8TB Edition: StarWind Enterprise HA 8TB Edition license includes unlimited iSCSI client connections with 8TB storage capacity for large storage capacity environments that require Active-Active High Availability. The StarWind Enterprise HA 8TB license permits installation on a secondary node for the purpose of mirroring or replication from the primary node. The licenses includes 1 year of maintenance.

6. StarWind Enterprise HA 16TB Edition: StarWind Enterprise HA 16TB Edition license includes unlimited iSCSI client connections with 16TB storage capacity for large storage capacity environments that require Active-Active High Availability. The StarWind Enterprise HA 16TB license permits installation of two HA clusters with four active-active nodes for the purpose of mirroring or replication from two primary nodes. The licenses includes 1 year of maintenance.
7. StarWind Enterprise HA Unlimited Edition: StarWind Enterprise HA Unlimited Edition license includes unlimited iSCSI client connections with unlimited storage capacity with Active-Active High Availability. The StarWind Enterprise HA Unlimited Edition license permits installation of two HA clusters with four active-active nodes for the purpose of mirroring or replication from two primary nodes. The licenses includes 1 year of maintenance.

HOW ARE STARWIND NATIVE SAN FOR HYPER-V EDITIONS ARE LICENSED

1. 1TB Edition: 1TB Edition license includes unlimited iSCSI client connections with 1TB storage capacity for smaller storage capacity environments that require Active-Active High Availability but do not have a large amount of stored data. The 1TB Edition license permits installation on a secondary node for the purpose of mirroring or replication from the primary node. The licenses includes 1 year of maintenance.

2. 2TB Edition: 2TB Edition license includes unlimited iSCSI client connections with 2TB storage capacity for smaller storage capacity environments that require Active-Active High Availability but do not have a large amount of stored data. The 2TB Edition license permits installation on a secondary node for the purpose of mirroring or replication from the primary node. The licenses includes 1 year of maintenance.

3. 4TB Edition: 4TB Edition license includes unlimited iSCSI client connections with 4TB storage capacity for medium storage capacity environments that require Active-Active High Availability but do not have a large amount of stored data. The 4TB Edition license permits installation on a secondary node for the purpose of mirroring or replication from the primary node. The licenses includes 1 year of maintenance.

4. 8TB Edition: 8TB Edition license includes unlimited iSCSI client connections with 8TB storage capacity for large storage capacity environments that require Active-Active High Availability. The 8TB Edition license permits installation on a secondary node for the purpose of mirroring or replication from the primary node. The licenses includes 1 year of maintenance.

5. 16TB Edition: 16TB Edition license includes unlimited iSCSI client connections with 16TB storage capacity for large storage capacity environments that require Active-Active High Availability. The 16TB Edition license permits installation of one HA cluster with four active-active nodes for the purpose of mirroring or replication from two primary nodes. The licenses includes 1 year of maintenance.

6. HA Unlimited Edition: Unlimited Edition license includes unlimited iSCSI client connections with unlimited storage capacity with Active-Active High Availability. The Unlimited Edition license permits installation of two HA clusters with four active-active nodes for the purpose of mirroring or replication from two primary nodes. The licenses includes 1 year of maintenance.

STARWIND BACKUP ESSENTIALS

1) StarWind Hyper-V Backup Plug-in:
Licensing policy for StarWind Hyper-V Backup plug-in is based on the number of Hyper-V hosts which will be backed up. StarWind Hyper-V Backup Plug-in provides a unique license that can cover an exact number of Hyper-V hosts that are required by a customer at the moment of purchase*. The licensing is not limited to the number of Virtual Machines per a single Hyper-V host and not affiliated with a number of CPUs on a physical server.

The list price for StarWind Hyper-V Backup Plug-in is $399.00 per each Hyper-V host.

*Example: If a customer has two Hyper-V hosts and wishes to backup, restore, deploy, and/or perform disk management operations, a customer needs only 1 license of StarWind Hyper-V Backup Plug-in which covers two Hyper-V hosts. If a customer has three Hyper-V hosts, the customer still needs only 1 license which covers three Hyper-V hosts, and so on.

2) StarWind VMware Backup Plug-in:
Licensing policy for StarWind VMware Backup plug-in is based on the number of ESX(i) hosts which will be backed up. StarWind VMware Backup Plug-in provides a unique license that can cover an exact number of ESX(i) hosts that are required by a customer at the moment of purchase*. The licensing is not limited to the number of Virtual Machines per a single ESX(i) host and not affiliated with a number of CPUs on a physical server.

The list price for StarWind VMware Backup Plug-in is $399.00 per each ESX(i) host.

*Example: If a customer has two ESX(i) hosts and wishes to backup, restore, deploy, and/or perform disk management operations, a customer needs only 1 license of StarWind VMware Backup Plug-in which covers two ESX(i) hosts. If a customer has three ESX(i) hosts, the customer still needs only 1 license which covers three ESX(i) hosts, and so on.

LICENSE KEY ACTIVATION

StarWind uses a license key to activate software and add-on features. The licensing mechanism does not require activation over the internet – license keys function independently to authorize the activation of a single StarWind Server license.

TECHNICAL SUPPORT

Free Technical Support

All customers purchasing product license without ASM can still receive thirty (30) days of free technical support as defined in the End-User Licensing Agreement (EULA) shipped with the product.

Free support is provided via email and the online web site forum on a best-effort basis. The thirty (30) day period starts on the purchase date of product licenses.

Technical Support is available on a per-year basis. One can purchase the ASM subscription and receive technical support respectively during 1, 2 or 3 years periods.
