Hyperconverged storage denotes a software-defined approach to storage management combining storage, compute, virtualization, and networking technologies into one integral unit using the same hardware. Each storage node in the cluster runs identical virtualization software. Resources are virtualized on one node and shared with other nodes in the cluster providing clustered applications with a unified storage pool. The latter is centrally managed and monitored through a single console. Converged vs Hyperconverged Storage

Converged infrastructure is presented as a hardware-defined solution and integrates storage, compute, and networking resources into a preconfigured package. All resources operate as a single but discrete system and therefore can be separated. In a converged infrastructure, one storage unit is dedicated to one compute node. Converged storage is managed separately but also can be partially administrated using storage policies on the hypervisor level. Often, this process requires special applications to service various infrastructure parts and calls for additional space. In turn, it limits IT infrastructure flexibility and scalability.
