STVR (Slovenská televízia a rozhlas) ensures uninterrupted access to its critical data by building a highly available infrastructure with StarWind Virtual SAN (VSAN)

CHALLENGE

Before implementing StarWind Virtual SAN (VSAN), Slovenská televízia a rozhlas (STVR) operated a mixed virtualization environment built on both Hyper-V and VMware. For storage, they relied on VMware vSAN, but this setup didn’t fully align with their unique infrastructure goals. STVR needed an active-active storage replication solution not for virtual machine storage, as is common, but to build a highly available (HA) file server infrastructure. Existing tools like Veeam replication and native Microsoft solutions lacked the flexibility to meet their HA requirements.

As a national media organization, uninterrupted access to critical data was non-negotiable. Without a reliable solution, ensuring data integrity and operational continuity was a growing concern.

The StarWind solution suits us the best as an alternative to vSAN (before used vSAN from VMware). There have been no issues from the beginning with the StarWind solution. We are fully satisfied.

SOLUTION

STVR chose StarWind VSAN to create a fault-toler- ant, HA file server cluster. The StarWind solution delivered the required active-active storage replica- tion, helping the IT team significantly increase data availability across their infrastructure. By eliminating reliance on VMware vSAN and replacing it with a more adaptable and cost-effective alternative, STVR achieved better control over its environment.
