POWER-CAST achieves uninterrupted production processes by creating highly available shared storage across its ESXi hosts with StarWind Virtual SAN (VSAN)
CHALLENGE
Before deploying StarWind Virtual SAN (VSAN), POWER-CAST operated a virtualized environment based on VMware ESXi with two hosts, each using direct-attached storage (DAS). This setup lacked redundancy, creating a single point of failure for both compute and storage. Any host or storage failure could lead to downtime and service disruption.
Achieving high availability (HA) with traditional shared storage required significant investment in external SAN hardware, which was not cost-effective for the company. As a result, POWER-CAST needed a way to ensure data redundancy and continuous operation without introducing excessive infrastructure costs or complexity.
StarWind VSAN is an affordable solution and has an excellent reputation. It works great and satisfies all our requirements.

SOLUTOIN
POWER-CAST chose StarWind VSAN to build an HA storage cluster using existing hardware. StarWind mirrored storage between the two ESXi hosts, converting local disks into shared storage. This enabled failover and ensured data availability in case of host failure. The solution eliminated the need for expensive physical SAN devices while maintaining enterprise-grade resilience.
The resulting infrastructure is stable, cost-efficient, and fully meets the company’s availability and performance requirements.
