CHALLENGE
Before deploying StarWind Virtual SAN (VSAN), Grand River Conservation Authority’s IT infrastructure consisted of server virtualization, a SAN, and a firewall, all powered by the Hyper-V hypervisor. The primary challenge was the need to transform its existing HP P2000 SAN, which utilized fibre channel controllers, into an iSCSI SAN. The existing controllers were incompatible with this new requirement, and the prospect of spending thousands of dollars to replace them was financially prohibitive.
GRCA considered various storage solutions. However, its prior experience with StarWind led the organization to confidently select it as the solution.
SOLUTION
With StarWind VSAN, GRCA was able to seamlessly convert its existing HP fibre channel SAN into an iSCSI SAN without the need for costly controller replacements. This cost-effective transformation ensured that GRCA could leverage its existing hardware investment while meeting its evolving storage needs.
The resulting infrastructure powered by StarWind VSAN has exceeded expectations. GRCA has achieved a more robust and cost-effective IT environment, ensuring the continued success of its conservation efforts in the Grand River watershed.
