Grand River Conservation Authority cuts its IT budget expenditures by 80% with StarWind

Updated: June 24th, 2022

Without spending tons of money we turned our HP fibre channel SAN into an iSCSI SAN.

Before deploying StarWind Virtual SAN (VSAN), Grand River Conservation Authority already had server virtualization. It was based on physical SAN with Microsoft Hyper-V on top and secured with Firewall. The agency had an aging Fibre Channel (FC) HP P2000 SAN they really needed to phase out. The idea was not to spend thousands of dollars anymore just to update the controllers and get some new drives but to go to Software-Defined Storage (SDS) instead..

Grand River Conservation Authority already used the StarWind software before and really liked it. StarWind VSAN deployment allowed the agency to turn their existing servers and other equipment into a high performance and fully fault tolerant (FT) iSCSI/ISER SAN at a very reasonable price. Grand River Conservation Authority is very happy with the StarWind software as it satisfies what the agency needed to accomplish.
