PF Software Inc. achieves 24/7 business operations by building a hyperconverged infrastructure powered by StarWind Virtual SAN (VSAN)
CHALLENGE
Before deploying StarWind Virtual SAN (VSAN), the client company of PF Software Inc. had a bulky physical server IT infrastructure with a lack of high availability (HA). The company’s goal was to build a hyperconverged environment based on Hyper-V, but without the high licensing costs that come with Microsoft’s Storage Spaces Direct (S2D), which requires Windows Server Datacenter Edition. While the existing client’s infrastructure wasn’t completely broken, it was built around a traditional multi-server setup that lacked the simplicity, efficiency, and resilience of a modern HCI design. Implementing shared storage on top of DAS RAID arrays without spending a fortune became the primary challenge.
The StarWind Virtual SAN product provided an elegant and cost-effective means to implement a hyperconverged infrastructure.

SOLUTION
PF Software Inc. chose StarWind VSAN because it offered an affordable way to build the hyperconverged infrastructure the client company needed. By deploying a 2-node failover cluster running Hyper-V and leveraging StarWind VSAN to create shared storage over local DAS, PF Software Inc. eliminated the need for expensive SAN hardware or costly Windows Server licenses. The result was a streamlined, highly available virtualized environment that satisfied all operational requirements. Going forward, PF Software Inc. plans to reuse StarWind in future projects requiring HA.
