Book Depot Inc saves $40,000 for every hour of avoided downtime by building a stable production environment powered by StarWind Virtual SAN (VSAN)
CHALLENGE
Before deploying StarWind Virtual SAN (VSAN), Book Depot Inc was relying on a Microsoft HCI infrastructure running on Dell hardware with Hyper-V as the hypervisor. While this setup worked in general, it often became difficult to manage during issues. Storage replication after a node reboot could take up to five hours, which made maintenance windows long and unpredictable. The lack of a support contract also meant that the IT team had to deal with problems on their own, with no external help. Although replacing the system with a new Dell HCI setup was an option, the cost was too high to justify. Book Depot Inc needed a more manageable and support-backed alternative that wouldn’t require major hardware investments.
With StarWind VSAN, the storage volumes replicate very quickly; Microsoft HCI can take upwards of 5 hours to regenerate and synchronize. StarWind takes on average 15 minutes after a node reboot.
