Aspectis Kft. ensures continuous critical metro operations by deploying a high-availability cluster with StarWind Virtual SAN (VSAN)
CHALLENGE
Before StarWind Virtual SAN (VSAN) deployment, Aspectis Kft. operated a legacy high-availability environment on the Budapest M4 metro line that was based on CentOS and Corosync. The servers had been installed in 2012-2013 and were already far beyond their expected lifecycle. Both the hardware platform and the redundancy software were outdated and hard to maintain. The environment could not deliver the level of reliability required for critical metro operations, and upgrades were complex because the solution was tightly coupled to old Linux components.
At the same time, the company was running Microsoft Hyper-V as its hypervisor, which did not integrate well with the existing Linux-based clustering stack. Without a modern, Hyper-V-ready storage layer, the infrastructure faced increasing risks of downtime, limited scalability, and high operational effort.
StarWind software gave us a new, reliable, easy-to-implement solution, plus it is future-proof. As we are absolutely pleased with StarWind’s solution, for any project requiring a similar solution, StarWind will be the No.1 choice for us.

SOLUTION
Aspectis Kft. chose StarWind VSAN to replace the old CentOS and Corosync setup with a modern, fully supported storage platform for Microsoft Hyper-V. StarWind VSAN allowed the company to keep its trusted Supermicro hardware, which it had used for more than 15 years, while adding a reliable software-defined storage layer. The implementation was simple and required almost no changes to existing operational processes.
The new cluster provides synchronous storage replication, high availability, and simplified management. The solution is future-proof and requires almost no maintenance, which significantly reduces operational costs. The final environment fully satisfied both Aspectis Kft. and the end user.
