Ascent, LLC ensures uninterrupted operations and cuts maintenance costs by deploying a two-node high-availability cluster with StarWind Virtual SAN (VSAN)
CHALLENGE
Before deploying StarWind Virtual SAN (VSAN), Ascent, LLC relied on two standalone physical servers, running Windows Server 2022 with no high availability (HA). When one server needed maintenance or had an issue, workloads had to be manually moved to the secondary node. Any servicing required planning an outage window, which disrupted operations and added stress to routine maintenance.
The main concern was uptime, and the existing setup could not provide seamless failover. Alternatives like VMware vSAN and Proxmox with Ceph were evaluated, but they were harder to deploy, more expensive, or required more hardware nodes. Ascent needed a reliable, simple, and cost-effective way to achieve HA with just two servers.
StarWind VSAN provides high availability with seamless failover and simplifies maintenance, as I can now live migrate workloads to the other node while servicing the hypervisors.
