Dpt. Business Management of the Polytechnic University of Valencia ensures critical data access by creating a failover cluster with StarWind Virtual SAN (VSAN)
CHALLENGE
Before deploying StarWind Virtual SAN (VSAN), the Department of Business Management at the Polytechnic University of Valencia relied on NFS shares distributed across several Linux CentOSbased servers. The IT infrastructure lacked scalability and high availability (HA), with data protection relying solely on conventional backup solutions. This setup posed significant risks to service continuity and left critical VM storage vulnerable to downtime and data loss.
Running on an XCP-ng hypervisor managed through the XenCenter open project, the system could not ensure resilience and reliability. The absence of built-in redundancy and failover mechanisms limited the department’s ability to grow its infrastructure securely and confidently.
It was clear from our first tests with StarWind that it had the best price-performance ratio. We now have the peace of mind of always having our critical virtual machine storage available, we have high availability.

SOLUTION
StarWind VSAN transformed the department’s IT environment by introducing HA and eliminating storage-related single points of failure. From the first internal tests, it was evident that StarWind offered an unmatched price-performance ratio, eliminating the need to evaluate other solutions. The implementation provided the team with muchneeded peace of mind, knowing that critical VMs now reside on an HA storage layer.
Since deployment, operations have been running smoothly. Now the IT team is confident that in the event of a failure, services will continue uninterrupted. The department plans to continue leveraging StarWind’s full capabilities in the future.
