I am afraid that there is no version compatible with Windows 2000 . Windows 2000 is not supported anymore in the latest versions of StarWind. As for the older versions, they are not develped anymore.

Creating a NIC teaming or an MPIO configuration should help, however, noone can garantee that.

I would suggest using direct cabling for the testing purposes to avoid the scenario where a network switch can cause this bottleneck issue.

Yes, this happens because Vmware cannot actually find the correct signature for the mounted device. That's why changing the LVM resignature to 1 solves this problem.

Yes, this is possible. You can set up any local or remote iSCSI lun as an active or a passive mirror, not just an image file, including Disk Bridge device (physical disk over iSCSI), Snapshot or another mirror device.

That may be related to ESX itself. Try to change LVMresignature parameter to "1" in the advanced options of Vmware. This could help.
