We currently have a Starwind HA Cluster running version 6 (I know, we need to upgrade to V8. Will happen a little later this year :) )

The storage is exposed to a Windows Server 2008 R2 cluster with Cluster Shared Volumes. We are implementing the VEEAM backup program, and are needing a hardware VSS provider to install on the VEEAM backup proxy to offload backup traffic off of the Main LAN network.

I see there is a Hardware VSS provider for V8; will this Hardware VSS provider work for version 6? Is there a separate download for a V6 VSS Hardware provider?

Thanks!
Jeff

Components are not backward compatible so you need V8 core matching V8 VSS.

Just to confirm, there is NOT a Version 6 Hardware VSS provider?

Thanks!

V6 has a VSS hardware provider but it does not work well with VEEAM Backup & Replication pre V7 at least.

If I wanted to try it out where would I download a copy of that Hardware VSS provider from?

Thanks!

There's no point in doing that as it would not work. Everything would fall down to Windows default software VSS with tons of time wasted.

That's what I needed to know. I'll hold off until I can upgrade to V8.

...and if you still want to waste your time for doing that please drop a message to support@starwindsoftware.com with a reference to this thread and support guys will provide you with a private download URL for the most recent V6 VSS install (I'm not sure public one published is the most up-to-date one we ever had...).

Whoops... You've been faster to post :) Yes, that would be wise thing to do.

We will accelerate our upgrade to V8. Two questions:

1) Do you have a whitepaper outlining the step by step procedure for upgrading from V6 to V8?

2) We have an HA (2 node) config. With other upgrades we have been able to keep the HyperV virtual machines up and running during the upgrade process. Can this be accomplished when upgrading from V6 to V8?

Thanks!

We have FAQ article, that should work: www.starwindsoftware.com/starwind-faq#q_19

Yes.

OK - I'm going to ask a stupid question.

Where on the web site can I download my license key from? I have a login and active support contract, but can't seem to find the right spot on the web site.

Thanks!

Its not stupid at all!
The best, fastest and the only way to get it is to request it from your sales account manager. As far as I can see you worked with Jack.

Jack did get me the license, and everything went smooth with the upgrade last night. :)

Now that V8 is installed, where can I obtain the StarWind Hardware VSS Provider to install on my Veeam backup server?

Thanks!

OK, I "think" I installed the hardware VSS provider on my Veeam server. I can verify that it installed properly?

Thanks!
