Hi

I am planning to move several starwind targets from one "starwind host" to another.
The drives are in use for several test clusters W2k3/8/R2/SQL.

What's to do?:

I will install the same starwind release onto the new host in the same directory.
After this I will move the target files to the new host (same directory like old targets).
Than I will copy the starwind.cfg to the new host.
Perhaps there will be a (re)registering with serial needed...

Is this way correct?

Thanks

Thomas

Havn't anyone moved his targets to another machine?

If you are talking about the img files, I just move them like a vhd for a virtual machine I want to move. I haven't tried moving the config file as well.

When doing HA I then tell it not to re-synch if it was the last one off.

So basically I do:
-Move IMG file
-Create a target in starwind and point it to the old img

The better is to install StarWind to the new server, then copy the images, create new targets using existing images.

Can the image files be copies while being used by the current starwind server? The image files I need to copy are 550GB and 800GB. Would rather not have to shutdown the service to copy them.

Hey Sensor

You will need to stop the starwind services to copy the image files, otherwise you'll may get data corruption

I guess I need to schedule some downtime.

Yes, this is definitely correct. BTW, in future releases you`ll get ability to use Snapshots and HA bundled.
