Re: Why did you buy StarWind and not its competitor?

What issues did you have with our free VTL? Not the answers your looking for, but... We didn't buy it because after testing the free version of VTL, your support staff danced around answering my questions about if the paid version would fix some pain points the free version had. And after pressing f...

Re: NVME-oF with 2 Machines without purchasing expansive NICs

StarWind NVMe-oF initiator supports NVMe-over-TCP now so you don't need to have any RDMA NICs now. TCP flow won't make your CPUs happy, but you'll get the performance numbers you want right away.

Hey! Is there anything features-wise you think StarWind is missing so far? Thanks!

Re: Will this work?

Yes, it will. You'll have to use WS2016 or 2019 though as we don't test against and support WS2012 anymore. Server with SCSI card with Quantum Scalar 50 robotic tape library. Operating System is Hyper-V 2012 core. Install Starwind Tape Redirector on this server. Present tape library to VM on this se...

Re: P2V question - use custom storage?

Yes, there's a P2V mode within our V2V converter. https://www.starwindsoftware.com/v2v-help/PhysicalDisksandP2VScenario.html I have a remote physical server that I only have remote access to and I would like to create a virtual image of it to send to my datacenter in my office. Can it do this? And i...

Re: Trying to be clear on this - use iSCSI instead of SMB

SMB/CIFS called "network redirector" within Microsoft terminology for a reason: it's just a local application "talking" to file system via file system local APIs and it has network layer "injected" in between it and a remote client. Block protocols and their way to deal...

Re: Trying to be clear on this - use iSCSI instead of SMB

You can do that because in most modern operating systems storage stacks are "layer cake" of multiple drivers put on top of each other. On Windows Server example it's: <physical device> := <StorPort + miniport | monolithic SCSI port> <optional SCSI filters> <block device> := <class driver> ...
