Re: Set up access to a Starwind Target as READ ONLY

Hi, I'm not sure it's doable from the Management console. StarWind can mount the whole device as read only, but this would apply to all initiators. You can try setting the disk as read only on the initiator side, but I'm not sure Veeam will be able to work with it. BTW: Is this setting a Veeam requi...

Hi Pavel,
Did you have a chance to perform the second test?
What was the outcome?

Re: No StarWind Service installed

Yes, customers who purchased commercial licenses can ask sales to give them the link for the version of the product they purchased.
Not sure if the same will work for free users though.

Re: Killer offer for VMware users, who understand?

That may be the wrong license file.
Is there any chance you could send it to support@starwindsoftware.com mentioning this forum thread?

Re: Killer offer for VMware users, who understand?

Hi,
Actually StarWind Virtual SAN for vSphere comes with no HA capacity limitations.
It's an unlimited 2-node license which you can use either with free or with a commercial vSphere installation.
Please feel free to contact me should you have any questions.

Re: Windows Storage Server 2012 R2 support

I would recommend to stop and disable the Microsoft iSCSI target services using the services.msc snap-in.
Once it's disabled you should be able to install StarWind normally.

Re: difference between virtual SAN/iSCSI SAN & NAS/native SAN?

Hi Juri, StarWind iSCSI SAN and StarWind Native SAN are now renamed into StarWind Virtual SAN. Before, StarWind iSCSI SAN was the product for installing on dedicated SAN servers to be then used with any client OS or hypervisor. Native SAN was the product for installing on Hyper-V hosts only, and clu...

Re: Dynamic discovery issue

You're correct,
The iSCSI target role on WS 2012 R2 Locks the 3260 port, so you're not able to see the StarWind targets.
You may workaround it by changing the ports you use for StarWind in both StarWind management console and vSphere iSCSI initiator dynamic discovery window.

Re: Performance questions with SSD Cache

Hi Craggy,
The only way to test this is to disable the L2 cache and do one more test.
I can't tell if it's the bottleneck for sure since you also have your RAM cache sitting on top, and the network which can slightly increase the latency.

Re: starwind tape redirector with windows server 2012 R2

Could you please tell me if the device is used by any other application other than StarWind.
There should be something preventing StarWind from getting full control over the device.
