Re: Starwind iSCSI vs Microsoft NFS

Since you are noticing the difference of performance when using "Disk Bridge" you should first check the performance of your network link between your StarWind server and your ESX server, if you will get the full bandwidth your link can give you can go further and test RAM device, create ...

Re: Starwind iSCSI vs Microsoft NFS

1) Under "Microsoft NFS" we should read "Microsoft SMB", right? Well this is what I'm seeing under server manager... The NFS Volume I'm connecting to from VMware is Volume-03-03 . http://cba.cba.edu/IT/mcknight/nfs1.gif 3) Do you run HA or non-HA? This datastore is NOT doing any...

Starwind iSCSI vs Microsoft NFS

I’m primarily doing workstation virtualization on VMware’s VSphere. As my nonscientific benchmark, I time how long it takes some of my larger apps to load. In one case when I have the VM on a Starwind ISCSI target it takes 58 seconds to load. When I have a clone of that VM sitting on an NFS share it...

Re: Starwind wishlist

Since someone else started this thread I’ll add my wish. I wish Starwind had some built in benchmark and diagnostic tools: I use Starwind in a 10Gig VMware environment. I can Google all sorts of posts about how someone did “this” to get more performance or someone else did “that” which is why they l...

Re: HA Sync Performance

Let's break this down into smaller pieces. Those of you who are using HA and can setup the following tests please answer these questions: 1. With no HA enabled what speeds are you seeing when transferring data to and from both datastores? 2. With an HA target created what speeds are you seeing trans...

Re: HA Sync Performance

Okay, let me give some more detail on my setup: I am running Starwind for a VMware environment. My VMware hosts like my datastore boxes have both 10gig ports teamed with one port set active and the other port set standby. There are two paths between any host and any single iSCSI target, that target ...

Re: HA Sync Performance

I'm pretty happy with HA although I'm at the final testing stages of the latest beta, I'm still running 4.2 (non HA) in production. What kind of speeds are you getting? On what kind of hardware? Now I'm not trying to argue just to argue, I'm trying to debate this to become informed, so bear with me...

Re: HA Sync Performance

Are both paths between your clients and your starwind boxes 10Gbit end-to-end, and are you using a seperate 10Gbit connection for sync? Aitor Yes, No. Although my Intel nic is a dual port CX4 card. I have grouped the ports together as a virtual nic. So I have port 1 going to switch A as active prim...

Re: HA Sync Performance

For what it's worth we're having the same problem. I have two datastores running server 2008 R2 with two quad core intel processors and an intel 10gig ethernet card. The RAID is on a Areca 1680i PCI express raid card with 15 1TB Seagate SAS drives. If I clone a VM on a non HA target I can get betwee...
