Re: Checking for updates

Is there some place I need to sign up for email notifications? I've never gotten one. Should I get one on every new build? Also it would be real useful if on the download page is said more than just "StarWind 5.7". It should provide the build number and even the build date... in my opinion.

Checking for updates

Is there some web page that will tell me the current build/version of Starwind for download?

Re: StarWind iSCSI SAN V5.7 Build 20110524

1) Check is the string <imagedir path="*" flags="cmdfv" alias="Metadata" extensions="spmetadata"/> is present there. If not add it as it is on the example above and restart the StarWind service please. Yes, that was the problem. Once I did that I was able to ...

Re: StarWind iSCSI SAN V5.7 Build 20110524

Make sure you're running the most recent beta I'm still trying to get Deduplication to work. I've installed the June 15th build: {excerpt from starwind log} 6/26 0:10:09.815 16b8 Srv: StarWind iSCSI SAN Software v5.7.0 (Build 20110615, [SwSAN], Win64) 6/26 0:10:09.815 16b8 Srv: Built Jun 15 2011 13...

Re: StarWind iSCSI SAN V5.7 Build 20110524

Should I be able to test Deduplication? I don't know if this is something I should be able to test in the 5.7 or not. Regardless, I can't seem to even create a DD target. Once I click past the screen for choosing which kind of cache I want (None/WT/WB). I get a "Device test failed for 'DDDisk1'.

Re: StarWind iSCSI SAN V5.7 Build 20110524

Thanks, the common issue with those post was a bad RAID build. I reinitialized my RAID volume and tried again. Everything is working now.

Re: Random suggestions and feedback for 5.7

Here's a couple comments for Starwind's GUI. I've been having a real problem with the performance of my datastores. So I hoped I could use the new performance data tools in Starwind to help. First, and I think it's already been mentioned, the "Total Bandwidth" chart needs better labels and...

Re: StarWind iSCSI SAN V5.7 Build 20110524

I'm getting a error trying to mount a newly created HA within VMWare. I created a 1TB HA img with the following settings: <device name="HAImage1" target="iqn.2008-08.com.starwindsoftware:www.xxx.yyy.zzz-volume-ha-01" file="My Computer\E\Volume-HA-01.img" serialId="...

Re: Starwind iSCSI vs Microsoft NFS

I've been brain storming this. I think what I've decided to do is create one massive Volume on my RAID. Since I'm putting all my VMs on RAID6, I'm just going to put many smaller ImageFiles on, what Windows will see as, one NTFS drive. I don't see any advantage in creating lots of volume sets on my r...

Re: Starwind iSCSI vs Microsoft NFS

I still have a hard time understanding how read\write requests that have to go through an ImageFile which, in my mind, looks like this: Starwind <-> Windows OS <-> RAID Driver <-> RAIDCard <-> HardDrive would be as fast as RAW which, in my mind, looks like Starwind <-> RAID Driver <-> RaidCard <-> H...

Re: Starwind iSCSI vs Microsoft NFS

Ok, I'm pretty much past this whole iSCSI vs. NFS. But I have some other question as part of what I discovered during this process... There's a problem with Starwind and Areca, fine, but is the problem because I'm going Starwind -> Diskbridge -> Areca? So if I had done an ImageFile instead would I h...

Re: Starwind iSCSI vs Microsoft NFS

So I've got Server 2008R2 SP1 running on the bare metal and it's only job is to run Starwind. I've got Intel's 16.1 drivers installed on my Server 2008R2 SP1 with no issues... I'm aware of. Again this physical server is not a VM. Here are the setting on my iSCSI server compared to what Aitor posted....

Re: Starwind iSCSI vs Microsoft NFS

Well I spoke to Starwind support and I was told the problem is because of my Areca card. Startwind has a problem talking to Areca. The tech knew about the problem and said it was a Starwind issue. As soon as he saw my Areca card he had me down grade to Starwind 5.3.5. That picked up my speed, but I ...

Re: Starwind iSCSI vs Microsoft NFS

In the interest of full disclosure I think I found the "Ya but" problem with Microsoft NFS. Microsoft's NFS has terrible write speeds with vSphere. Even though I get 4 times the read performance, I think I get 1/10th the write speeds. According to my research this is because when vSphere w...

Re: Starwind iSCSI vs Microsoft NFS

Understood. I will run the tests as soon as I can and post the results. In the mean time, I have a dumb question and I can't find the answer anywhere on Starwind's site. I own a license of Starwind and I'm still within my 1 year maintenance agreement. What web page do I go to to see what the current...
