StarWind Virtual SAN Free creates a DIY “Active – Active”, “shared nothing” fault-tolerant SAN and NAS by mirroring internal storage between brand new or decommissioned hypervisor servers.

This webinar discusses all the features and capabilities of StarWind Virtual SAN Free and provides a brief demonstration of how to manage and configure StarWind VSAN Free version using PowerShell scripts.

StarWind Virtual SAN Free delivers the unlimited number of features, nodes and capacity. StarWind VSAN Free utilizes Web and thick client available only during a 30-day trial period, VVOLs, SMI-S and PowerShell as its management tools. All this functionality comes absolutely free, and all that is required is to simply install it on the hosts and start working.

StarWind Virtual SAN allows creating a fully hyper-converged environment with absolutely no costs. Comparing to Microsoft Hyper-V Server 2016 and VMware vSphere Hypervisor, StarWind VSAN Free as a software defined storage solution allows to build a storage cluster and offers unlimited features from the storage hypervisor standpoint. Thus, the free version delivers all the functionality that StarWind Virtual SAN has inside, except for user interface available only during the 30-day trial. StarWind VSAN Free comes with a set of ready-to-use PowerShell scripts that allow to quickly deploy the Virtual SAN infrastructure and configure most of its features. It must be noted that the Free version goes self-supported or community-supported at StarWind forums.

The webinar further provides a brief demonstration of working with StarWind Virtual SAN Free using PowerShell Scripts.

After having installed StarWind VSAN Free, the ready-to-use PowerShell scripts can be found in the StarWind folder. They can be used to create a standalone device, a two-node highly available device or to deal with a node failure or synchronization loss between the servers.
