Edge infrastructure investment in 2019 and 2020 grew by 5.9% and 14.5%, respectively, while core infrastructure declined by 6.3% and 0.6%. Already by 2023, more than 50% of new enterprise IT infrastructure deployed will be at the edge rather than at corporate data centers. That’s up from 10% today.

The investment in video surveillance and machine vision at the edge will grow significantly as well, as it is a crucial part of such complex systems as smart cities, smart workplaces, smart transportation, and manufacturing. Edge video solutions are used for everything from security and traffic control to crime detection and emergency response.

The primary reasons for this dramatic shift are the necessity for faster application response time, unprecedented data generation, requirements for sensitive data handling, and business continuity in case the network goes down or the core cloud becomes unavailable. It’s unreal to have IT teams at every edge location or to build full-blown datacenters everywhere.

StarWind HyperConverged Appliance (HCA) for Video Surveillance and Analytics is a rock-solid HCI platform for VMS, video analytics that’s built together with leading VMS vendors like Genetec, Milestone, Briefcam, and Bosch Security Systems. It’s designed to deliver video surveillance and analytics solutions to the Edge with maximum fault tolerance and minimum possible hardware footprint.
