Solution to sync SAN1 to SAN2

Postby Dana2011 » Fri May 27, 2011 3:10 pm

What is better solution to connect SAN1 to SAN2 for sync; I have two channels for sync SAN1 to SAN2
- connect SAN1 to SAN2 with a straight trough cables from NICs
- connect SAN1 to SAN2 whit crossover cables
Or connect SAN1 with SAN2 trough Switch; I have Dell PowerConnect 6248.

Thanks for any advice!

No hardware = nothing to fail. For sync channels use cross-over cables if possible. They are cheaper, faster and copper is more reliable then baked silicon :)

You really need to have sync channels configured using different set of hardware (switches, NICs and cabling) to provide redundancy. Software configuration (subnets, VLANs etc) does not matter at all.

Tiny correction: if your hypervisor of choice is ESX you'd better stick with the DIFFERENT subnets.
