Mirror/Replication Disk Bridge

Postby chop » Wed May 11, 2011 7:22 pm

Hello,

We are currently testing the new version and trying to get disk replication/mirroing across disk bridged targets. The reason is purely down to disk throughput vs img file.

Hasy anyone has any joy with this type of config?

Cheers

Hi, mirroring 2 disk bridges is not possible now - you can only have Disk bridge for the second mirror.
By the way - the performance drop between the raw disk and an IMG file is not higher than 0.5 % - why do you want to go for raw drive only?

Copying the following data: 379GB

Disk Bridge 2:10 hrs

Img File: 3:50 hrs

Will do some more test today, but will it be included in future editions?

Me bad forgot to disable AV on the new mounted target, is now flying again. Is there any documentation to add mirror/replication to an exisiting img target. I have sort of gone about this all the wrong way!! this is just down to my joy at all of the features within the system.

To replicate the existing target you need to recreate it, you can't do this on the fly.

Thats a shame, so I cannot mirror existing images, cannot mirror disk bridge targets.

Ok will start again tomorrow

One last question can I ask what is the difference from the paid version and the free version that is available in three days?

We'll bring ability to upgrade from single target to mirror and / or HA configuration. We don't like idea of mirroring physical targets however (numerous reasons). Microsoft itselfs is trying to stay away from partition-to-iSCSI and not "just because" (c) ...

Huge difference is HA (no HA in free version). Also mirror & replication are N/A in free version. And it comes with no paid support (you should buy it separately if you want to have support in production). So free version is supported via forum mostly.

As you're talking about the free edition - what version number is this - 5.7? And is the full version of 5.7 being released at the same time?

cheers,

5.6 re-published (some features added compared to original 5.6 + some bugfixes). Call it 5.6 SPxxx

5.7 should be published gold in the beginning of June.
