iSCSI Target for Virtual SQL-Server

Postby marcello » Mon Sep 06, 2010 12:50 pm

I have two virtual servers for my test environment (Guest operating system is Windows Server 2008 R2)
I want to install SQL2008 on these servers and I need a second partition as data-drive for SQL which should be an iSCSI-Target.
My iSCSI Target Server (Starwind V5) has an external SCSI storage system with 2TB disk space which I have reserved for the SQL-Server.
Is it better to create a 2TB Image or to connect the initiator directly to the physical disk - is there a performance difference.
What kind of connection would be better for a SQL-Server

Hi, actually there is no difference in performance between raw disk export and image file export.
However as long you have these 2TB reserved exclusively for SQL server you can export the array as a physical disk.
