IBV device IBV5: client does not support VSS

Postby mkaishar » Wed Jun 01, 2011 6:30 pm

Using .ibv with vmware datastores...is that supported?

This is the exact notification: IBV device IBV5: client does not support VSS. Snapshot may be inconsistent.

Thanks,
Mark

VSS is Volume Snapshot Services. Entirely Microsoft thing so far. So it's normal VMware does not support it :) However VMFS is doing atomic writes and is journaling by it's nature so you may treat this warning as a warning.

I understand that vmware doesn't support vss, my main concern is...should i just ignore the warnings?

You do exactly what you're supposed to do - you ask. In this particular case it's a real warning so you can ignore it. Other cases could be different.
