Failing to format new partition on extended Image

I have version 3.5.5.

I was successfully using an 80GB image file from a win2k3 client machine. I needed more space, so I tried several things.

1) Create a new image, pick it up on the client and use that additional space - problem here is that while the client machine could see and logon to that new instance, it fails to format a new partition (There are no errors in the event logs, verbiage is : "The request timed out and could not be completed."
2) Extend the existing working image and create a new partition in the expanded space - Same error message.

Can you point me in the direction of where the error is coming from?

Can you upgrade to StarWind 4.0 and check whether the problem persists.

Well, actually the usage is greater than 2GB, so with the new licensing restrictions on the free version, I can't at this point.

You can also try the following:

1. In the Starwind Management Console right-click on the image file and choose “Properties”;
2. “Image file name” parameter will show you the exact location of your image file on your computer;
3. Then click on “Remove device” button;
4. Install the new storage;
5. Copy the image file from the original location and paste it on the new one;
6. Click “Add device” button;
7. In the “Add device wizard” select “Mount existing virtual disk”;
8. Once you have done through the wizard and the image file is available in the Management Console, right click on it and select “Extend size”.
9. Type in the necessary image size and click OK.

This way all the data previously saved on the image file will not be lost and the size of the image will be extended to the needed size.
