Can not connect to SUN Storage 7110

Postby davidls » Mon Jul 25, 2011 5:04 pm

Hi at all,

Using a SUN Storage 7110 I can connect it with application "StarWind iSCSI Initiator", because shows the next error message: "Failed to connect to remote server. Server may be refusing network connections. You may need to check firewall settings".

The computer is O.S. Windows 7 Professional with Windows Firewall disable, then I have connection with Telnet to SUN Storage 7110 using port 3260 correctly. Also, I attach a compressed filename "StarPort.zip" with Logs of application.

I need access to SUN Storage 7110 because I required backup information data in the LUN and Windows cant not see the SAN volumes. Please, could you help me to resolve this problem?

Best regards,
David López

So have you checked your network connectivity and firewall settings as it was told in the message?

Hi at all,

Thanks for your comments and sorry for me late answers.

- Where is the storage connected to?

The SUN Storage 7110 has configured a LACP aggregation and VLAN for iSCSI traffic, and is connected to switch in iSCSI Zone
in front of other switch in LAN zone. In fact the communication between both switch is permitted for:

Access Rules (LAN > iSCSI) = Allow all traffic.
Access Rules (iSCSI > LAN) = Allow SNMP for LAN Subnet. Deny all traffic.

- where are you trying to connect to the storage it from?

I trying to connect from LAN zone to iSCSI zone, for exemple as commands:

ping 10.1.1.100 = The reply is OK.
telnet 10.1.1.100 3260 = The port is opened OK.

- which server is not seeing the storage?

From my computer is in LAN zone its can't see the storage.

- which IP address are you using to connect to the storage?

The SUN Storage 7110 has configured a network 10.1.1.0/24, using IP address 10.1.1.100 and Gateway 10.1.1.254.

- which computer is using "Windows 7 Professional with Windows Firewall disable"?

Yes, it's true.

- So have you checked your network connectivity and firewall settings as it was told in the message?

Yes, I checked the firewall is disabled and the error message its shows again.

Hi Anatoly,

No, because using Microsoft iSCSI Initiator it has a problem with CHAP secret authentication and it shows an
error message below:

"Target CHAP secret is not valid. The maximum CHAP secret size is 16 bytes and the minimum is 12 if nos using IPSec"

For this reason I searching a free iSCSI Initiator application like as StarWind.

Hi Anatoly,

No, I don't see any errors in Windows Event logs.

Do you confirm that StarWind iSCSI Initiator can function with LACP aggregation and VLAN?

Do you know if other customers with StarWind iSCSI Initiator expected the same problem?

Please, let me if you know any information or Logs to check this problem.

Have you setted up some Access rules? Please doublecheck it and setup it like below:
Access Rules (iSCSI > LAN) = Allow all traffic.
